Not to tell you anything you don’t already know, but this year is flying by…nearly ¾’s over. Ya wake up and it’s Monday morning, ugh, but before you know it, here it is Friday’s cheer again. It’s not like “nothing is happening in between” …I think actually it is mental drain due to data bombardment that desensitizes us from tracking time, so it just moves briskly along despite us. Maybe times are no different at all, but it seems harder today to save time in a bottle…and I do love to hum Jim Croce’s famous lyrics.

Holidays and Conventions in the same week – another couple things that distort our sense of time management…but aren’t both fun and worthwhile! I have to admit the KHA’s speakers seem to get better with each passing year, and last weeks were no exception. I am so glad MCH had more than a full table in attendance and I hope each of you who went are sharing good things you learned.

Holiday weeks rarely see as much activity as is seen in our hospital’s routine weeks, and last week may have reached a low point for our weekly 2026 statistics. I have reported similar drops in previous Septembers, so this is nothing to be alarmed about. Afterall, any year is going to have its lowest two-week stretch, so I am happy to predict that we just had ours, and it is behind us. Happy to report that we did receive our first money from the RHTP grants: $100,000 for participating in the exchange of Evidence Based Metrics with the KU Collaborative Group! AND…we received word back from our Interim Midyear Cost Report that our expected quarter million dollars will almost be fully recovered for the inclusion of our EMS team in the calculations! It is so nice when estimations evolve into fruition.

As we celebrate National Assisted Living Week this week, I do wish to promote the “happy place” that our Council Grove Assisted Living Center affords its many residents. We do have a few apartments available so please come visit or call Laverne at the Center to learn more (620-767-5600).

Do have a great next two weeks and do extend your best care to our patients.
