Administrator’s Bi-Weekly Review (April 17th)

Updated: Apr 18

Continued Dedicated Service to Our Community

For Pay Period Ending April 12th

Another busy two weeks at MCH, as we have arrived in quarter number two of 2025 already! I honestly don’t have much to share that is new and exciting – although we have landed on a new home for our Pulmonary Rehab service…soon to be moved to Rooms 29 and 30, which will be conveniently situated right outside of a front entrance and parking. The advantage of moving this service is two-fold: to bring our only in-house Respiratory Therapist closer to our nurses and patients who might better gain from her skill sets, and to free up the old EMS barn and attached corridor for an expanded OR plan. This expansion would have been cost prohibitive had we tried to build around the current Pulmonary Rehab space.

I should add that plenty of excitement is emanating from our national capital, as the DOGE efforts are leaving no business sector untouched. It appears that some potentially significant reductions in programs related to Public Health, health workforce programs, patient training and assistance programs, and even an effort to privatize some of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services – are all being proposed - all in the interest of reducing our debt. For certain there will be major reorganizations taking place within HRSA, CDC, CMS, and even the Office of Pharmacy Affairs. Life as healthcare providers is in for some topsy turvy months of redirection or rebalancing, at the very minimum. I just hope that the new leaders will retain a strong value for what we do in rural medicine.

Afterall – rural America voted Mr. Trump into office.

It is great to don the shorts again and welcome in some recent high 80-degree days.  Be safe as you reenter the great outdoors. Thanks to all our staff who give of themselves for our patients, each and every day! Have a great next two weeks!
