October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Mammography Department at Morris County Hospital wanted to do its part in raising awareness with a month of events.

This year’s theme was: "Diggin for a Cure."

The month began with the 3rd annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest.  Sixteen  Departments participated in decorating a Breast Cancer themed pumpkin for public display in the MCH Lobby.  The public judged the pumpkins. There were 107 votes.

On October the 8th Corky Messer, Deanna Buttrey and Amy Mayhill (MCH Radiology) took an awareness booth to the Lady Braves Volleyball Invitational. Were approximately 200 awareness pins were given out to the public.

On October 12th the Radiology Department hosted an Open House for its new Digital Mammography Program with 38 people attending.  The attendees were able to see the new machine and a comparison of the difference in the imaging technology.  The Morris County Auxiliary served refreshments.

Cupcake WarsThe last event of the month was the Cupcake Wars.   Employees baked a  dozen or more cupcakes and entered them for judging.  Best Taste was won by Jenae Hill (MCH Business Office) and Best Presentation was won by Ashley Hinkson (Morris County Health Department).  Judges for the event were Rick Paul (Foundation Board Member) Bob Price (MCH Radiology) and Karson Craig (MCH Physical Therapy).  After judging employees of MCH paid by donation to eat the cupcakes raising $100.00 dollars for the Susan G Komen Passionately Pink Program and $53.00 dollars for MCH Relay for Life Team.  We ate cupcakes and saved a life!

The Raffle for the Breast Cancer cooler was held throughout the month and the winner was Allyson Oliva.  This event raised $74.00 dollars for the MCH Auxiliary softer mammogram program.

It was a busy month and a time to honor those we have lost to breast cancer. A time to bring awareness to the possibility of early detection and saving lives.
